#85 Media – Healthy & Unhealthy Relationships

This Conversation Will Help You…

  1. Name at least one healthy and unhealthy relationship shown in the media
  2. Name three ways why they believe the relationship is healthy or unhealthy
  3. Define what they would do if they were in each relationship

Think About This First

  •  This conversation can be easy to initiate if there are certain TV shows that you watch together, or if you have recently seen a movie together.

Having The Conversation

Start Here:

What are the healthiest and unhealthiest relationships you’ve seen in the media?

Which ones stand out to you because they’re really good or really bad?

Why do you think it is particularly bad or good?

If it’s bad, what would make it good?

Continue:

What are the things that made you think the relationship was healthy?

What were the things that made you realize that the relationship was unhealthy?

What were the things that they were saying to each other?

How were they acting?

What did you notice?

How do you know when a relationship is unhealthy and when it is just complicated or demanding?

Keep Talking:

What are ways that you’ve seen similar relationships happen in real life?

Have you seen examples of relationships in real life that are similar to the good or bad relationships in the media?

How were they similar or different?

Do you think that the media influences what people think is okay in a relationship?

Are there things from the relationships in the media that you wouldn’t want in a relationship of your own? What are those things?
