#30. How Relationships Fit into Life

This Conversation Will Help You…

  1. Prioritize a relationship within a full life - school, family, work, religion, etc

  2. Think about the importance a relationship should play/what importance they want it to play in their lives

  3. Know that different people prioritize relationships differently and that is okay

Think About This First

    • This conversation can help young people think about the role they want a relationship to play in their lives and allows the opportunity to think of other important aspects of their life that are not related to dating.

    Having the Conversation

    Start here:

Do your priorities in life change when you’re in a relationship?

How much should your priorities change when you’re in a relationship?

Where would you place your relationship in terms of importance among other things that mean a lot to you?

Are there times in your life when a relationship would take top priority?

    When is that?

What kinds of things would you prioritize over a relationship right now?

    Why?

    Continue:

What would you do if you felt like your relationship was taking you away from other priorities in life? What do you think is a good balance with relationships and other priorities?

    Keep Talking:

Do you and your partner need to prioritize your relationship in the same way?

What are ways that you could help your partner keep their priorities in check?

What are some ways your partner could help you keep your priorities in check?
