#28. Relationships: Wants & Needs Changing

This Conversation Will Help You…

  1. Say what initially drew them to the person in the relationship - qualities, etc

  2. Say reasons why a person’s needs might change in the course of a relationship

  3. Express those needs to a partner

Think About This First

  • This conversation gives an opportunity to think about the course of a relationship, how things change, and what some ways are that the young person in a relationship can help think about how they want their relationship to look.

    Having the Conversation

    Start here:

What kinds of things make a person first appealing to you?

What makes them stand out from everyone else?

What did you notice about how the person treated you?

What was special or different about it?

    Continue:

What kind of life circumstances might make your relationship needs change?

How might school difficulties affect your needs in a relationship?

How might stress affect a relationship?

What circumstances would make you want more space in a relationship?

    Keep Talking:

What are different ways you like to bring up important subjects in a relationship?

What is different about bringing up something important in a relationship versus a friendship?

If you were going to ask your partner how they’d want to be told important things, what do you think they’d say?

If someone you were dating asked you how you’d like to have important things brought up, what would you say?
