 This Conversation Will Help You…

  1. Talk about growing up, how they were treated (adults)
  2. Name ways they would support a friend/partner
  3. Name ways that witnessing violence would impact someone

Think About This First

Having the Conversation

Start Here:

If a person has grown up in a home where they have seen or experienced violence, what kind of impact do that think that has on a person?

Do you think they will automatically be violent when they grow up?

Continue:

Experiencing violence doesn’t always mean that a person will then grow up to be violent – people choose how they act, even though past experiences could influence them.

How could they make sure they aren’t?

What are the kinds of things would constitute violence in a family?

Keep Talking:

If someone was in a violent home or a damaging relationship, where could they go for help?

Do you know of any resources or programs in our community that help people trying to escape a violent home?

Who could they talk to that was safe?
